Projects & Volunteering

Projects

There are always interesting projects that the volunteers undertake at the Otway Districts Historical Society.

Current projects include:

Photographic collection project -  Through generous donations ODHS has over a number of years, amassed a large collection of photographs.  This project in the first stage will involve the digitisation and cataloguing of donated photographs to add to our existing collection of over 1700 photographs.

Volunteer Opportunity: Photograph Scanning & Cataloguing
We are currently seeking volunteers to help scan, organise, and catalogue historic photographic collections.

What you’ll do:

  • Digitise historic photographs using our scanning equipment
  •  Create descriptive records to improve searchability and add to our existing catalogue of over 1700 historic photographs.

 Who we’re looking for:

  • Volunteers with no prior experience who are eager to learn — full training and ongoing guidance will be provided
  •  Individuals with cataloguing or archival experience — a bonus, but not required
  •  Anyone with an interest in photography, local history, or digital archiving
  •  Ability to work in Beech Forest

 Why volunteer with us?

  • Gain hands-on experience with archival practices
  • Contribute to meaningful preservation work that benefits the entire community
  • Flexible hours in a supportive, friendly environment

If you would like to help make these special photographs discoverable and be part of a fun and rewarding project, we’d love to hear from you.
